BOOK LAUNCH: DER PLATTENSPIELER | KONRAD PAUL LIESSMANN
BOOK LAUNCH: DER PLATTENSPIELER | KONRAD PAUL LIESSMANN
As part of the current exhibition >>ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES. TWEN: THE MAGAZINE OF THE SIXTIES<<, WestLicht, in collaboration with Residenz Verlag, invited guests to the presentation of the latest title in the series >>Die Dinge des Lebens<<: DER PLATTENSPIELER, a love letter from philosopher and passionate record collector Konrad Paul Liessmann to the instrument that unites all instruments.
In the age of digitalization, turntables and good old vinyl records are experiencing an unprecedented renaissance. For Konrad Paul Liessmann, this is hardly surprising. He has always remained loyal to the turntable. Even now, the spinning platter, the delicate needle, and the fine grooves continue to captivate him. When he dedicates himself to his beloved turntable, the philosopher combines personal musical experiences with a small cultural history of listening. He tells the story of the storage and reproduction of sound, from the first phonograph to modern streaming services, and explores how much our relationship with music has changed due to its technical reproducibility.
